Our Fieldworker Eli Shaw joined us last fall. He attends seminary in Fort wayne, IN. The role of the MDiv (Master of Divinity) field worker is to get to know the congregation(s) and learn from them and the pastor.
This is also an opportunity to serve and acquire practical experience with activities such as conducting the Divine Service before he goes on vicarage in his third year.
Eli’s immediate family has been in the Hocking hills area in southeast Ohio since 1829 and have deep roots in the area. Eli hopes to serve within commutable distance to his hometown of Logan when he receives his call after graduating from the seminary. “Lord willing!” he acknowledges.
Eli’s wife, Lindsey, is finishing her master’s degree in pharmacology and toxicology at Wright State University in Dayton, and is currently looking for a job close to home. Eli has a daughter, Rylee, who lives in Logan. “Both Lindsey and Rylee are such a joy and blessing to me,” says Eli.
Eli admits to being a “huge nerd… a Batman and Star Wars fanatic.” He says he is excited to spend the next year and a half serving and learning from both the St. John’s and Emmanuel congregations until his third year as a vicar. We like Eli, and know that you will, too!
